Three kinds of routine app
"Routine app" covers three quite different kinds of software, and most disappointment comes from picking the wrong kind:
- Routine runners walk you through a routine one step at a time, with a timer on each step. You press start; the app tells you what is next. Best when you know your routine but do not get through it.
- Visual planners place routines as blocks in a plan of your whole day. Best when you lose track of the day itself.
- Self-care platforms combine routines with coaching, journaling, mood tracking and lessons. Best when you want guidance on what your routine should be.
And separately, habit trackers record whether you did something afterwards. They are covered in the best habit tracker for ADHD and compared with routine apps in habit tracker vs routine app.
Orbit is on this list because we make it. The rest are the apps we would genuinely consider in each category.

Routine runners
Routinery
The most established routine runner. You build routines, press play, and Routinery guides each step with voice alerts and notifications; you can pause, skip and adjust on the fly. It has a large library of routine ideas, habit analytics and a plant badge that grows with your streaks, and runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch — including older iPhones. It requires an account. Its App Store listing says Forbes Health named it Best ADHD App in 2025. See Orbit vs Routinery.
Orbit
A routine runner built around the Lock Screen. A started routine becomes a calm orb that counts down the current step, on screen, on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so you never have to reopen the app to find your place. There is no account; routines stay on the iPhone. You earn a streak freeze for every five days in a row, and a missed day can be rescued when you come back. It ships with 14 templates and timers that can adapt to how long steps really take you. iPhone-only, iOS 26, English-only; paid after a free trial.
RoutineFlow
A simple, ADHD-focused routine runner: steps with emojis and durations, run as a sequence of timers, with gentle reminders and a year of timing analytics. It supports iOS 14 and has an Android version. See Orbit vs RoutineFlow.
Brili
Routines as timed playlists, with a dynamic visual clock that shows the time left for everything remaining — a strong feature for time blindness. Adds a calendar view, achievements and customisable rewards, and describes itself as based on ADHD research and CBT practice. See Orbit vs Brili.
Visual planners
Structured
A vertical timeline of your day with every task, event and routine drawn to scale. The free tier is generous — timeline, inbox, Pomodoro timer, Live Activities and widgets — and Pro adds calendar integration, recurring routines and AI planning. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. See Orbit vs Structured.
Tiimo
A colour-coded visual plan of the day designed with ADHD and autism experts, with an AI co-planner, a to-do list, a focus timer and family profiles. Its App Store listing names it Apple's iPhone App of the Year 2025. See Orbit vs Tiimo.
Self-care platforms
Fabulous
A self-improvement platform built around routines: coaching series, multi-week journeys (including building a morning routine), journaling, short workouts, meditation and live challenges. Best if you want to be told what to do, not only helped to do it. See Orbit vs Fabulous.
Me+
A daily routine planner and habit tracker with mood and progress tracking and ready-made self-care schedules — one of the most-rated apps in the category.
How to choose
- Do you know the steps but not get through them? A routine runner. Routinery if you want voice guidance or an Apple Watch; Orbit if you want the routine on your Lock Screen, no account and forgiving streaks; RoutineFlow for Android.
- Do you lose track of the day? Structured or Tiimo.
- Do you not know what your routine should be? Fabulous or Me+, or start from a ready-made routine in our routine library.
- Have broken streaks ended apps for you before? Check what each app does on a missed day before committing — what a streak freeze is explains what to look for.
Whatever you pick, test it on an ordinary weekday rather than a motivated Sunday. The six-question test in what an ADHD routine builder needs to do takes one morning.
